Hand pierced,  rollprinted and hand finished pendants of seabirds all of which are seen from my living room window. The sailing boat was drawn while watching it come into Scrabster harbour in the summer.

Today I am making shinty jewellery and work for the RNLI fayre this weekend. Wish I'd done it earlier now, having to stand out in the workshop during a storm isn't very cosy!

I've been drawing at Scrabster quarry for a few days now.  I'd love to know more about this disused quarry that sits on the edge of a 200 foot cliff on the very north of Scotland, it must have been a harsh environment to work in in winter! Today though has been beautifully sunny and warm enough to finish a sketch before the sun dropped below the horizon. I love the solidity of the caithness stone and irregularity of the mounts of discards pieces.

Today's weather is so bad today, I've been sitting at the kitchen table trying out yet more techniques. I love using ordinary household bleach, watered down to lighten Quink Ink. The line drawing is initially drawn using fine line permanent pen which isn't affected by the bleach. Best to water it down first to give different variations in shades.

A wide variety of techniques being tried out in the last few days, mixed media, watercolour and pen and ink.

Still not completely happy with this picture, always wanting to add more mixed media but not far away from the finished idea. I've been looking at quotes to go with harbours, boats, sailing and lifeboats; the same few keep coming up but none appropriate for what I'm trying to say! Suggestions would be gratefully received.

There are a few glaring mistakes in yet another quick watercolour sketch, tomorrow I shall commit to drawing one that takes longer than an hour! Perched on the grassy cliff top sketching with pen to get the proportions right before the wind gets too much. It's important to draw from real whenever possible to get a lively feel. The difference in this picture us the way the watercolour has been absorbed by the cartridge paper - very different from watercolour paper...

My boys have discovered the love of fishing off the pier and now we are blessed with fresh fish most days.  I just need them to learn how to gut, fillet and cook them and carefully dispose of the stinky entrails!

A new concept I think? (I've googled the term and can't find anyone who does anything similar - it would be good to find out!) looking forward to what I might be producing once I've got the hang of using the material

A collection of photos from this mornings dog walk, picking up seaweed for various projects with the help of Paddy who kept the birds at bay while rolling in something stinky!

A very quick pen sketch today of the Banff registered trawler, I love the ones with a bit of rust :)

This is exciting for me, love the linear quality of this dried seaweed...

Experimenting with kelp at the moment, hoping to do some weaving but noticed that moisture in the air softens the kelp, love the translucence 

An example of how I work - I draw my chosen subject then recreate it exactly using wire ... this is a big one to finish!

Sorry for the quality of photo, have no idea why it's so fuzzy! This was a commission at Christmas of a house in Newtonmore using a variety of thicknesses of wire.
